Arkansas

March 9, 2009 - Representative Kathy Webb has sponsored  HB 2102 in the Arkansas state legislature. It is now in committee.

Colorado

L3C legislation was introduced by State Representative Joe Miklosi in the Colorado House on January 15, 2010. The bill is HB10-1111.

Crow Indian Nation

On January 13, 2009 the Crow Tribe passed legislation allowing for Low Profit Limited Liability Companies in the Crow nation.  Click here to read more about it.

Illinois

Senator Heather Steans and Senator David Koehler have introduced Bill SB0239 in the Illinois Senate which will amend the Limited Liability Company Act.  It allows for the creation of a low-profit limited liability company or L3C. Defines "L3C" or "low-profit limited liability company".
On March 10, 2009 the L3C billed passed unanimously out of the Senate Judiciary Committee.   The Senate unanimously passed SB0239 on April 2, 2009.  It now goes to the House for approval. The legislative history and text can be found here.

On May 7, 2009 the Illinois House of Representatives unanimously passed SB0239.  It now awaits the Governors signature.

On Tuesday, August 4, 2009 Governor Pat Quinn signed Bill SB0239 into law.  It takes effect January 1, 2010.

Missouri

One February 29, 2009 Missouri State Representative Rachel Storch sponsor of HB 817 introduced the bill which  "Allows for the organization of a low-profit limited liability company or L3C ." The legislative history and text can be found here.

Michigan

Both Houses of the Michigan Legislature have passed the L3C Bill, SB1445. Michigan Governor Granholm signed L3C Bill SNB-1445 on January 15, 2009.

New York

Senators William T. Stachowski  and Kevin S. Parker have co-sponsored and introduced the L3C bill in the New York State Senate.  You can read Bill No. 6726 here.

North Carolina

L3C legislation was re-introduced on February 25, 2008 in the North Carolina legislature by primary sponsor Senator Jim Jacumin entitled Endangered Manufacturing and Jobs Act, Senate Bill 308.  On July 8, 2009 the North Carolina Senate passed Senate Bill 308.  It now heads to the House.

Oregon

L3C legislation is being sponsored in Oregon by Representatives Larry Galizio of District 35 and Representative Tobias Read of District 2.  The text of HB 2886 can be read here.

Oglala Sioux Tribe

On July 2, 2009 the Oglala Sioux Tribe passed legislation allowing for Low Profit Limited Liability Companies in the Oglala nation.

Tennessee

Senator Jack Johnson and Representative Charles Sargent are sponsoring and entering bills SB0472 /HB0664 authorizing the formation of low-profit limited liability companies in Tennessee. You can follow the bills progress here.

Utah

February, 2009  - Senator Lyle Hillyard from District 25 introduced  the Low-profit Limited Liability Company Act S.B. 148 on February 2, 2009. It passed the Senate on February 24, 2009.  S.B. 148 passed the House on March 10, 2009.  The Act is sponsored in the House by Representative Kraig Powell  of District 54.

On March 23, 2009, Governor Jon M. Huntsman Jr. signed the Low-Profit Limited Liability Company Act S.B. 148 into law.  The legislative history and text can be found here.

Vermont

The House version of the bill, H.B. 0775, was approved by the full House on February 27, 2008 and by the Senate on April 11, 2008. The legislation was signed into law by Governor Jim Douglas on April 30, 2008.

Originally introduced in January, 2007, legislation to enact the L3C was championed by Representative Michelle Kupersmith and Senator Susan Bartlett and cosponsored by Representatives Judith Livingston, Warren Kitzmiller, Bill Botzow, Ernest Shand, Michael Marcotte, Michele Kupersmith, Clement Bissonnette, Michel Consejo, Susan Davis, and John Clerkin. Organizations testifying in support of the L3C before the committee included the Mannweiler Foundation, the Hartland Group, the Castanea Foundation, Ashoka, Deutsche Bank, Caplin & Drysdale, and others.

Wyoming

January, 2009 - Wyoming State Representative, Dan Zwonitzer,  introduced the L3C bill HB0182.  The bill has passed in the House and the Senate passed it on February 20th.

On February 26, 2009 Wyoming Governor Dave Freudenthal signed the L3C Legislation into law.  The legislative history and text can be found here. Search for HB0182 in the bill listing.
